Don’t judge a book by its cover

My brother and new sister in-law were married this past weekend.  That in and of itself needs to be a post (more to come on that).  When I first heard they were getting married at Forest Lawn Cemetery I thought “huh, that’s unusual”.   Boy was I wrong!  I’ve lived in Omaha (this time) for 19 years now and until this wedding I had never been through Forest Lawn.  I was first struck by the size of the cemetery, it is absolutely massive.  As we’re driving through I’m taken back by the beautiful monuments to loved ones that have passed on.  I then noticed the history.  Names like Kiewit, Buffet, Doorly…the list goes on and on.  This is a place that speaks to you through those that built our amazing city.  We made it to the chapel.  On the outside it’s a beautiful building but not “ohhh and awwww” inspiring.  That’s saved for when you walk through the front doors.  My words will not do justice to this building.  If you live in Omaha and have never visited Forest Lawn, make it happen.  For those of you not in Omaha, what hidden gems are in your back yard?  Make a point to get out and explore.
